Last weekend, we introduced fish tank #5 to our household. A 100 gallon fish tank. Our tanks now total over 300 gallons. This new tank seems huge to me, even as it sits there empty, except for the water in it. But I’m excited. I can’t wait to transfer our puffer fish to it, to watch them swim in their new, roomier, surroundings. I knew I’d become addicted when I stood in front of their tank and told them all about the new home they’d soon be moving into! Only my porcupine puffer seemed interested, but then I realized it was also feeding time.

My grandson came over the other day and spotted the new tank immediately. He ran to it, walked up and down it (it’s 6 feet long), peering inside. Then he looked at me, threw his little hands up in the air and said, “Where?! Where?!” Where are the FISH, Grandma?! I told him they’d be in there soon. What I really love about this tank is that it sits low, so that the fish will be at the same level as my grandson.

My bf cannot go into a fish store and come out empty handed. So… we also have a few new additions to one of our other tanks. Never before, have I seen a live sea cucumber! Well, I have now! I watch it constantly as it feeds and slowly moves around. A sea cucumber is similar to a huge slug, yet they are much more beautiful!! This one is bright pink and yellow. My favorite colors! My bf also bought a neon orange cauliflower coral, a blueberry tree, and the most beautiful green carpet sea anemone! I found it a bit funny (and very pleasing) that my bf chose these additions because of their colors, which just happen to be MY favorite colors. What a guy!!

I tease my bf about being addicted to fish tanks, but I truly am happy that he has such a wonderful hobby, not to mention, his love of sea life. And I truly benefit in his hobby. I’ve learned not to drop my mouth open when he says how much something cost, or will cost, or tells me of his dream to one day own a 260 gallon fish tank. Actually, I think that would be awesome!!

Really envious. We just got a freshwater tank set up (where we lived previously I didn’t have the water to have a tank and properly care for it without a whole lot of hassle so we went without. I grew up in a home filled with tanks so it was something I missed. A few months ago a guy at work was tossing his 30 gallon in the dumpster complete with stand and accessories – it’s only occupant died so we mourned for a moment, grabbed and growled ~ RIP ;) . Going today to get a few more fish. Will eventually set up for saltwater, my Dad is so anxious for me to get started but I’m just not there with with having the time to set up and maintain. It’ll happen though.

Oh, lucky you getting the free tank! It’s fun, isn’t it… like an adventure. :)

Yep I didn’t even feel a twinge of guilt spending $100 today on fish and supplies ~ the tank was “free” after all. It’s freshwater so nothing fun to share as far as exotics but they look cool and my daughter loves her new snail. Hoping you post pictures of the 100 gallon after it’s established. If they are here I haven’t found them yet so I’ll noodle around.

We’re still setting up the tank, but I will definitely post pics when it’s ready! We actually went rock hunting today and found some awesome rocks for the tank. Sand goes in tomorrow!
Freshwater tanks are fun to set up, too! We have tons of snails and even I enjoy watching them move around the tank. :)
